Framing the Archipelago: Indonesia Through Indian Eyes 28 oktober - 03 november 2002 10:00 - 17:00 galeriMasa gratis untuk umum |  | press release Inspired by the beauty and variety of the Indonesian landscape and its people, five Indian photography buffs living in Indonesia have organized an exhibition entitled, "Framing the Archipelago", to be held at galeriMasa - gedungDUA8 in Kemang from October 28 to November 3, 2002. The exhibition is an additional feature in the ongoing Indian Festival in Indonesia, the vision of the Indian Ambassador, His Excellency Mr. Shyam Saran. Mr. Saran's photographs form part of the exhibition, and include contributions from Vijay Sood, Arun Taneja, Vivek Bammi, and Rohit Bhalla. The group has been fortunate to draw upon the technical expertise and advice of a leading Indonesian photographer, Mr. Deniek G. Sukarya. | Vijay Sood born in Calcutta, India, in 1946, Vijay started taking pictures in his early years at high school. he finds people and landscapes to be fascinating subjects, and Indonesia a country that offers an unlimited range of photographic opportunities | 
| Arun Taneja born in Dehra Dun, India, in 1948, arun was gifted a Yashica 635 by his parents to keep him occupied in the 7 months' break between high school and college. he enjoys the entire range of photography, with a special interest in nature and environmental portraits | 
| Viviek Bammi born in Assam, India, in 1955, Vivek discovered aesthetics in a childhood surrounded by nature in his hirst fall season in America. for him, Indonesia presents a kaleidoscope of landscapes, colors, and peoples which is endlessly fascinating | opening night ::: 27.10.02 with burning candles, indian-incense and colourful flowers, in the evening of 27 october 2002 His Excellency the Ambassador of India Mr Shyam Saran opened the photograhy-exhibition "Framing the Archipelago: Indonesia Through Indian Eyes" which will be held from 28 october through 03 november 2002 at galeriMasa | gedungDUA8. the exhibition carries 57 works of photography-buffs among the local Indian community, which includes HE the Ambassador himself, Vijay Sood, Arun Taneja, Vivek Bammi and Rohit Bhalla. around 60 international guests also took a leisurely tour around the ethno-galleries of gedungDUA8 which displays hundreds of artefacts from 20 ethnic groups around eastern Indonesia, including Bajau, Dayak, Timor, Asmat and Kamoro. the photographs are displayed at galeriMasa, with overflowing Indian textile decorations throughout. |
